7-1-2020 Update

Posted Wednesday, July 1, 2020

Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Local Schools, in collaboration with Greene County Public Health and the other Greene County School Districts, is planning for a full return of all students to school in the fall of 2020 on our normal return dates. The plan from Greene County School districts creates a common set of minimum guidelines that will be followed for the reopening of schools. Click here for the Greene County Common Plan. Each district will then determine more specific or prescriptive guidelines. It is expected that our district guidelines will be coming out in the next week or so.

Our decision to physically return to school is grounded in the belief that physically being at schools are fundamental to child and adolescent development and well-being and provide our children and adolescents with academic instruction, social and emotional skills, safety, reliable nutrition, physical/speech and mental health therapy, and opportunities for physical activity, among other benefits. Additionally, our decision to return was informed by the results of our parent survey, which indicated a strong desire to resume in-person classes this fall. We did not make the decision to return lightly, but the school district has put preventive measures in place including requirements and recommendations for staff and students to ensure the safest return possible. Even with these preventative measures, there is a health risk of being exposed to the COVID-19 virus while at school, attending school functions, or on the bus. Sending your student to school (or anywhere else) is a calculated risk. It will take all of us (parents, students, and staff) working together to create the safest environment possible. While we are planning on going back to school at 100% capacity, we must be flexible and nimble to be ready to quickly move to 100% remote learning if necessary.

Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Schools will also be providing a complete online option for K-12 students that choose to physically not return to school. If you choose this option, you must commit to this option for one semester at a time so that we can properly plan for staffing and materials. More information will be provided when the district plans are released. A new button has been added to the top of our district webpage, Fall 2020, that will house the information about our plans to return in the fall.

We are waiting for further guidance from the state to determine the extent of extra-curricular games or competitions for the fall; therefore, that information will be released when we receive it.

Thanks again for your support of our schools and we will be releasing our Fall 2020 Reopening Plan in the very near future.
