Representative Bob Cupp spoke to Bellbrook-Sugarcreek and Beavercreek residents on December 16 about “The Future of K-12 School State Funding in Ohio.” He explained the Cupp/Patterson proposal that is currently in committee in the Ohio House of Representatives. The system that he is working on is better than what we have; however, it is based on a community’s property wealth and income (currently it is just property wealth), it would be phased in over six years and they have not determined where this increase in funding for school will come from. We had about 75-100 people attend the presentation. We hosted this presentation because of feedback from the community that they wanted to learn more about state funding. It does provide us with some additional funding ($162k in year 1 and $140k in year 2) but this does not at all alleviate our need for local tax levies.
