Concert Ensembles

Music Department Ensembles & Choir

Symphony Band

The BHS Symphony Band is the largest of the concert performance ensembles at Bellbrook High School. Students will learn intermediate and advanced performance techniques along with development of individual tone and musicianship. Literature ranges from grade II-IV. The Symphony Band performs at all on-campus concerts, as well as the Ohio Music Educators Association District Concert Festival, and other concert events. Musicians also participate in the OMEA Solo and Ensemble festival second semester, as soloists or as members of smaller chamber groups. The Symphony Band rehearses primarily during class; however, sectionals and full band rehearsals will be called after school, with advance notice, in preparation for concerts and festivals or in the event of a clinic with a guest conductor or specialist.

Wind Ensemble
The BHS Wind Ensemble is a concert wind ensemble of balanced instrumentation, selected from the most experienced musicians in the band program at Bellbrook High School.  Musicians in this ensemble continue the development of advanced performance techniques while cultivating superior musicianship. Literature ranges from grade IV-VI. The Wind Ensemble performs at all on-campus concerts, district and state concert festivals, as well as other musical festivals nationwide. Musicians also participate in the OMEA Solo and Ensemble festival second semester, as soloists or as members of smaller chamber groups. The Wind Ensemble rehearses primarily during class; however, after school sectionals and rehearsals will be held on a regular basis during the second semester.

Percussion Orchestra
The BHS Percussion Orchestra is comprised of percussion students, grades 9-12, interested in the development of advanced performance techniques in all areas of percussion performance, including but not limited to marching percussion, keyboard percussion, timpani, orchestral performance, and jazz drum set pedagogy. Percussionists are assigned, based on ability, to one of the two BHS concert ensembles—Symphony Band or Wind Ensemble, and are mandated to adhere to the requirements of the ensemble as defined above. The Percussion Ensemble explores the finer aspects of concert percussion ensemble literature, while expanding individual performance teaching techniques.

Jazz Band
Membership by audition in September with standard instrumentation. During the school year the jazz band will rehearse during Mentor Periods on Monday and Thursday. There are many performances throughout the year including the Spirited Affair in October, the Sugar Maple Festival in April, and the Annual Jazz Concert in May.

Pep Band
The pep band plays at all of the boys home basketball games, and all instrumentation is accepted.

Concert Choir
The choir is open to vocal students who have a desire to work on vocal skills and techniques. The choir is a performance-based ensemble and will perform a minimum of three concerts per year. Students in the choir have the opportunity to sing a variety of styles of music and are given the opportunity to sing in small groups as well as in a large performance ensemble. Students must audition or be approved by the director.
