Lunch FAQs

Posted Tuesday, August 15, 2023
With the 2023-24 school year right around the corner, our Food Services Department is making sure you have the answers to your most commonly asked questions.

The state of Ohio is reimbursing school districts for reduced-fee meals during the upcoming school year. Families who qualify for reduced-fee meals now will receive those meals FREE. Please take the time to complete your free/reduced meal application as soon as possible!

Please note all students must input their student ID as they go through the lunch line. The Free and Reduced lunch benefit is confidential.

What does lunch include?
The USDA defines lunch as five components. These items are: grains, meat/or meat alternate proteins, fruit, vegetable and milk. In order for the meal to be considered a meal, a student MUST take a minimum of three components with one of those components being a 1/2 cup fruit/and or vegetable. If these components are not met, the meal will be broken down to a la carte charging. Please ensure your student knows they must take a fruit or vegetable at minimum to count as a lunch. We have signs posted in the cafeteria and cashiers and servers that will guide the students.

For breakfast, the USDA defines it as four components. These are grains which may include protein, fruit and milk. A student must take three out of four at a minimum and must take the fruit. If the fruit is not taken, the meal will be charged as separate a la carte.

You also can find this information on the SoHappy App which has our nutrition and allergy information. All elementary students will receive a paper menu each month, however, secondary students will need to look online.

How do I pay for school meals?
Cash or check brought to the buildings or through payschoolscentral.com. Set up an account to pay there. If you send in cash or check for more than the lunch price, the money will be applied to your student’s account and every time food is purchased, money will be debited from that balance. Please make checks out to Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Schools. In the memo, please indicate lunch and the names of your students.

Apply online: Please submit a meal assistance application through https://payschools.com for the upcoming school year.
Paper applications: Please download the application here or pick one up at the central office. You can return the completed application to the central office or have your student drop it off at their building.
